There is a certain morbidity in this drive to consume more and more, and there is a risk that an individual caught up in the need to consume its own does not solve the problem of its liabilities, its emptiness, anxiety and depression that arise from not being able to give meaning to their lives.
The Old Testament says that the worst sin of the Jews was to live without joy in abundance. I fear it could be argued that even though we live in today many pleasant experiences and try exciting little joy in all that abundance.
The concept of happiness is linked to the consumption, if we wanted to address the issue from a philosophical point of view we should go back to the essence and the psychology of the Enlightenment.
But if today we ask a person what makes her happy in the end, the answer is that happiness is to afford everything you want, this is the most popular and the concept of happiness probably more prevalent among men, which is based on consumption not only freedom but even happiness, and the only obstacle on this way is not having enough money to eat anything you would like to consume, consume, but does not make happy even if the majority of men believe that would be happier if their standard of living was higher.
Many investigations, but a simple look around us, show that it is not. The man is happy when its forces into action when he experiences himself as an active person in the world.
of Mario Benedetti, Uruguayan writer (1920-2009)
